Tools and barn

These tools and this barn are touchstones to my youth. Although I have no direct memory of it, I probably watched my Grandfather holding on to that plow arm, walking along behind a mule, plowing the garden. This was his tobacco barn, one of several he had on his farm. Long before fuel-oil burners, he would camp beside the barns all night during the curing season, keeping the fires stoked to cure the green leaves into golden yellow so he could feed his wife and four children.
